Duplicates not allowed
I have a spare parts database I use for my photocopier parts I stock in my car. It just has part number (barcode Field), Qty (integer) and part description (text field). Is it possible if you use the barcode field that it looks for a duplicate barcode when you scan it and instead of placing the result in the field if it is infact a duplicate in the database it brings up the actual itme so you can see it s there.
This doesn't have to be contained only to the barcode field it can be for any filed if you want to may it a unique field and not allow duplicates

Currently only name fields can be made unique, but this is not always useful..
Employee lists, equipment lists etc., often have items with duplicate names but which are distinguished by unique ID codes or serial numbers. -

I agree - Our systems can get very large and searching for a new entry can be time consuming. Being able to define the field entry as unique (no duplicates) would be a good fix.

For now you can try using the Search option when you scan the item instead of Add. This will find your existing entry in the database. You will have to edit the entry to update the quantity.
Would be better to be able to increment/decrement the entry when receiving/using the item. -

The barcode is a perfect example of the need to have a unique value in a field. There are situations where text , integer and contact fields could also qualify.
