But I think it's more necessary to view this icon in the edit mode of an entry, when you're trying to select which element of the list you want to accept. In this way you can rapidly focus at a glance which element you want to select.
Certainly, it's very cool to see the icon beside the selected item of a single list choice in view mode. But if you can see it in the edit mode this will improve and fasten your selection.
