At the screen top where a list of records appears, instead of just tabs as a selection tool, provide menu box with drop-down list.

Instead of “Show as tab”
Add new feature “Show as menu”

Drop down lists are far more viable when the choice of items is larger than is practical to show as tabs across the screen.
